ADDIEGO-RUDDER STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR’S PLAN
TO PROVIDE REAL PROPERTY TAX RELIEF

Assembly Republicans Scott Rudder and Dawn Marie Addiego, who both represent Burlington County, issued the following statement today as Governor Christie announced details regarding his plan to put a 2.0 percent cap on property taxes and giving voters the final say on their local property taxes for the first time in 30 years:

“Today is an historic day for New Jersey taxpayers as we finally embark on critical reforms that have been needed for so long,” said Rudder, who attended today’s news conference where Governor Christie outlined the details of the agreement. “Lowering the limit on government spending from 4 percent to 2 percent is a significant improvement in controlling spending,” continued Rudder. “Taxpayers will also benefit from reducing the number exemptions under the cap and finally having a say on whether they want to exceed the new 2 percent cap. This represents real change and something the public has been waiting for.”

“As someone who has served at the local level, I believe these reforms will provide elected officials with the tools they need to control spending and give relief to taxpayers,” said Addiego, who is a former councilwoman and freeholder. “Today’s agreement is a victory for residents of this state who have endured many years of politicians talking about this problem, but not doing anything. Through Governor Christie’s leadership and Republicans in the Legislature who recognize this as the top priority, we now will be able to give taxpayers the changes they have been waiting for.”
