Mr. Van Pelt was born on September 4, 1964, in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He graduated from Toms River High School East and attended Trenton State College, Trenton, N.J. where he graduated in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He received a master’s degree in Public Policy and Government from Regent University, Virginia Beach, Va., in 1993. Mr. Van Pelt was elected to the Ocean Township Committee in 1997 and served as mayor in 1999 & 2001 and from 2003 to the present. He is a member of the Ocean Township Planning Board and is Chairman of the Ocean Township Redevelopment Agency, Open Space Committee and Youth Advisory Committee. Mr. Van Pelt served as a member of the Executive Board for the New Jersey State League of Municipalities from 2003 to 2007. In addition, he also served as a member of the Southern Ocean County Hospital Board of Trustees from 2003 to 2007. Mr. Van Pelt and his wife, Stacey Diane, were married in 1996. They have two children, Kathleen, born February of 1997 and Connor, born in October of 1999.
