Assemblywoman Marcia Karrow was born and raised in Flemington, Hunterdon County, New Jersey where her father served as an elected official for almost twenty years.  She moved to Raritan Township in 1987 and was appointed to the local planning board in 1991.

She was elected to the Raritan Township Committee in 1993 and served on the Raritan Township Committee until 2002, creating the Township’s first Open Space Plan, their Agricultural Advisory Board, passing their first Right to Farm Ordinance and personally writing Green Acres and Farmland Preservation Grants.  Ms. Karrow has been credited by the local governing body for creating their Farmland Preservation program where more than 2000 acres are currently preserved and an additional 2000 acres are in the preservation pipeline.   She was given the South Branch Watershed Association’s Environmentalist of the Year Award for her efforts.

Assemblywoman Karrow became the first woman Freeholder in Hunterdon County’s history in 1999.  She wrote the County’s first Farmland, Open Space and Historical Preservation ballot question her first year as a Freeholder.  Hunterdon County has also enjoyed a stabile tax rate since the year 2000 when Ms. Karrow became Freeholder Director for the first time.

Ms. Karrow graduated Smith College and holds a Masters Degree from the University of Michigan and an M.B.A. from CUNY’s Baruch College.
