Assemblyman Ronald S. Dancer was selected by the Ocean County Republican Committee to fill the term of the late Assemblyman Melvin Cottrell. The assemblyman was sworn to the Legislature on November 18, 2002. He was elected to a full-term in 2003 and was re-elected in 2005.
Since 1990, he has been the mayor of Plumsted Township, and since 1985, he has been a member of the Ocean County Board of Social Services, of which he is currently chairman. Other civic affiliations include the following: chairman of the Ocean County Board of Social Services since 1997, member of the Ocean County Board of Social Services since 1985, member of the Ocean County Senior Citizens Advisory Council since 2002, member of the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission Task Force, member of the Plumsted Township Planning Board, member of the New Egypt Historical Society, member of the American Legion Post #455, member of the New Jersey Conference of Mayors, Board of Directors since 1993 and member of the New Jersey Farm Bureau.
The assemblyman also served on the New Jersey Horse Racing Commission from 1999 to 2002 and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture Sire Stakes Board from 1982 to 2002.
Assemblyman Dancer is currently an interviewer at the Ocean County Adjuster's Office.
Assemblyman Dancer and his wife Brenda, have two children, Ronald Jr., and Kristy. He also is a former horseman and the son of late Hall of Fame Harness Horse Racing Driver Stanley Dancer.
