Sean T. Kean served in the General Assembly from 2002-2007 where he was re-elected twice and served as Assistant Republican Whip from 2004-2007. In 2007, he was elected to the New Jersey Senate where he served the citizens of the 11th Legislative District from 2009 through 2011.
In 2011, after the decennial re-districting of the New Jersey legislative map, he was elected to serve the citizens of the 30th Legislative District as a member of the General Assembly. He was sworn in to the Assembly on January 10, 2012, making him only the 8th legislator in New Jersey history to return to the Assembly after serving in the Senate.
Born May 21, 1963, Kean grew up in Deal and is a graduate of Red Bank Catholic High School. He graduated from Seton Hall University, received a master’s degree from Columbia University, and earned a law degree at Seton Hall University Law School.
Kean served on the Monmouth County Environmental Council from 1999-2001 and was elected to serve on the Board of Directors of Republicans for Environmental Protection. He previously served on the Wall Township Planning Board.
He has sponsored legislation mandating carbon monoxide sensor installation in all residences and was the sponsor of the New Jersey Clean Car law which requires zero emission vehicle technology be made available in the state. He has sponsored legislation that would ban commercial fishing on New Jersey’s artificial reefs. He also sponsored legislation that would increase the penalties for kidnapping a child under the age of 16 and authored the law creating the Gold Star license plates for family members of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice defending our country.
Kean is employed as an attorney in private practice. He is married to his wife, Bridget.top
