Assemblyman John Amodeo / 609-677-8266
April 11, 2012
Assembly Republican John Amodeo, R-Atlantic, who is the ranking minority member on the Assembly Transportation, Public Works & Independent Authorities Committee, issued the following statement on the committee’s vote giving chairman John Wisniewski, D-Middlesex, the power to issue subpoenas regarding the operations of the Port Authority.
“Today’s approval granting subpoena powers to Chairman Wisniewski limits the input of the committee members, both Democrats and Republicans, and puts the focus on partisanship instead of objective fact-finding. This action takes the political aspect of this investigation to an even higher level and calls into question the impartiality of the investigation. Despite my efforts to keep the process as democratic as possible by amending the resolution to require committee approval of subpoenas, the Democrats proved they weren’t interested or concerned.
“Every reasonable effort must be made to obtain unbiased facts regarding the Port Authority. Giving subpoena power to someone who also serves as the State Democratic Party Chairman raises questions about the bias of this ‘special’ committee.”top
